A Virtual Quill and Ink for the Mobile Lifestyle
It was just about a week ago that the anniversary of Steve Job’s death was remembered and at the same time a note taking App appeared on our desk. There are many stories of how Steve Jobs was so moved by a college Calligraphy course that Calligraphy influenced his life and the first Macintosh – the first computer with beautiful typography. For a lot of us, writing in a notebook, is a pure free form of doodles, sketches and words. Note Anytime brings this feeling to the iPad.
Real Note Taking at Last
Note Anytime gave the feel of writing in a notebook on an iPad. The power of this app was the ability to note-take in a variety of formats and annotations. For example, if one is doing research on a marketing project and want to clip some market data from eMarketer. One can screencapture the webpage by entering the weblink in the App and the App will paste it directly on the note page. The UI is very clean and simple but, just in case, there is a direct link to instructional videos and a technical support link through Get satisfaction.
The editor shows up in a circular pattern showing the five different pens, text input, eraser and a lasso for grouping. To access any secondary features, one can just hold down one of the features for a second and the secondary menu will pop-up. Very simple.
The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword
You can use your finger or other stylus’ on this app but the demo pack that was sent to us also had a pen called the “Su-Pen.” This pen provides Note Anytime with a “brush” like feel for doing calligraphy and other creative touches. The pen has an interesting ball tip that a nylon mesh to give it that brush-like feel. The pen is only available in Japan but soon to arrive here in the US.
